Applying user experience design to communicate recruitment values

Client: Health Education England

The challenge

Health Education England is responsible for the production of information and resources to help deliver a better health workforce and for the education, training and personal development of every member of staff. Their Values Based Recruitment framework is a key part of ensuring they attract and recruit students, trainees and employees who have values that align with the values of the NHS Constitution. Uscreates’ challenge was to help Health Education England with the communication of the framework by crafting an interactive toolkit that is streamlined and engaging.

What was needed

An understanding of how to communicate complex information to multiple audiences using user experience design approaches.

What we did:

  • We worked with the existing recruitment framework content to develop robust information architecture that helped to add clarity to on-screen content
  • We translated complex content into an interactive format that facilitates navigation and accessibility of information
  • We used communication design to bring content to life through infographics, iconography and data visualisation

The results:

The toolkit helped demonstrate the importance of considering multiple end users in the dissemination of values-based recruitment and has challenged Health Education England to think about the role that digital publishing and user experience design has in the sustainability and upkeep of health-related policy.
