Meet the team
Mary is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Uscreates and oversees the direction and growth of the company. With the aim of designing better solutions throughout the public, private and third sector within the health and wellbeing industry. She has an in-depth specialist knowledge of design for social change from over 14 years in the sector. While at UEL Mary completed her PhD and reviewed how co-design has become a key method to tackle some of the UK’s most difficult social issues.
As the co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer at Uscreates, Zoe’s role is to lead Uscreates to be the market pioneer in communication and service design for health and wellbeing. Zoe has over 14 years’ experience designing, directing and delivering change programmes for clients in the public, private and third sector. Zoe has led over 60 programmes with the NHS, local authorities, universities, businesses and charitable foundations. These have tackled some of the UK’s most challenging issues, including public health, education and worklessness.
As Chief Design Officer at Uscreates , Joanna’s role is to develop design talent, and embed people-centred design across health and wellbeing campaigns, products, services, systems and policies. Joanna is a renowned researcher, speaker and lecturer on social design with 13 years of experience in the UK and Internationally across sectors. She has worked with clients such as Nesta, NHS England, Policy Lab, and over a hundred local authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups and charities to help them achieve transformational and sustainable change through design. Joanna has also completed a PhD in design for social integration at the University of the Arts London.
Patrick is responsible for developing business with new and existing clients within the public and private sector. Highly experienced in social change, a marketing professional and trainer for over 20 years, Patrick brings his experience in managing high value projects and providing an innovative and integrated strategy to help move Uscreates forward in the healthcare and wellbeing industry.
Robbie is Design Director at Uscreates, where he oversees the delivery of creative and communication design. As part of his role Robbie helps clients define their purpose, bring ideas to life and drive positive impact using people-centred design approaches. Robbie has led award-winning work across the public, private and third sectors for clients including NHS England, Cancer Research UK, Channel 4, The Big Issue and Department of Health.
With over 30 years of extensive business experience, Stephen sits on the board to share his strategic and innovative knowledge in public and private sectors across the business.
Alan’s expertise lays in engagement and qualitative research: his role at Uscreates is to involve and include people and their needs, particularly the marginalised and seldom heard voices. With over 7 years experience in this area he has amassed a large body of user research knowledge, managed large scale community and stakeholder engagement programmes, and inspired participation from hard to reach groups for clients ranging from local authorities and the NHS to businesses and charities.
Laura leads on user insight, service design and communication design projects at Uscreates. She is experienced in working on projects relating to communicating complex information in simple and engaging ways, designing services and strategies, and producing high quality digital and print outputs. Laura has worked on the design and implementation of projects for a range of private and public sector organisations including The Policy Lab, The African Centre for Cities and The Children’s Commissioner. Recently she has worked with The Health Foundation on co-designing ways to mobilise knowledge around health care improvement; and on a joint project with The Department of Health and The Department of Work and Pensions to co-design a person-centred Health and Work service.
Jocelyn is a Senior Consultant with particular expertise in social design and policy. At Uscreates she works with a range of government and public sector clients on strategic and collaborative design projects. She is also pursuing a PhD exploring the growing trend of design being used as a strategic and policy tool by governments. Before Uscreates, Jocelyn was a Visiting Scholar at the V&A, researching social design practice, and previous to that led the design policy team at a Westminster think tank for several years.
Hannah is a Prince2 practitioner Project Manager and has a BA in Politics and an MSc in International Development. She manages the operations at Uscreates to ensure the team is able to produce great work for happy clients. Hannah is part of the project management team responsible for managing communications and service design projects for private, public and third sector clients. She has worked on a range of projects with the NHS, private healthcare providers, PwC and national charities. Hannah is an internal wellbeing champion at Uscreates.
Ashley’s role is to contribute to the delivery of exceptionally high-quality design and innovation projects across digital and non-digital platforms. Ashley’s 3 years of study at London College of Communication nurtured her passion for designing for social good. With a First class degree in Design for Graphic Communication, Ashley has substantial understanding of design research and the application of relevant visual communication. At Uscreates, Ashley has helped to address challenges around behaviour change and innovation for clients in the public, private and third sector.
Sophie is a Service and Communications Designer specialising in creating innovative and engaging ways to improve user services and experiences. She has a background in Trend Forecasting and uses this experience to create long lasting, sustainable services. She has worked on projects for Uscreates tackling troubled families, smoking and pregnancy, early years’ health and wellbeing, unemployment and improvement of mental health services and support . Many of these projects required her to use ethnographic skills with users to gain a full understanding of how services could be improved by communicating the findings in simple, often visual way.
As a Design Consultant, Dominique delivers high-quality design solutions across both digital and non digital platforms. Her role encompasses designing brands, websites, campaigns, info-graphics and literature for the the public, private and third sector. Alongside a degree in Graphic and Media Design at the London College of Communication, Dominique’s expertise lies in branding and she has worked on projects for the Kings College Hospital, and Employee Ownership. Since joining Uscreates she has been able to fully combine in her knowledge for social design and visual communication working on projects for NHS England, PWC and the Children’s Commissioner.
Francesca works as a designer in both communications and service design. Trained as a graphic designer at the London College of Communication, she now delivers projects for health and wellbeing across communication, service design and user research. She has worked with a number of public and third sector clients including Scope, UCL partners, Citizens Advice, Lankelly Chase and NHS England. She is an advocate for using visual methods to help people understand complex problems and issues, and has a passion for helping people to tell their stories through design.
A specialist in stakeholder engagement and collaborative design processes for social projects, Gabriel has experience of delivering programmes in the public, corporate and third sectors. He’s a former Civil Servant who is passionate about developing strategies and public policy in an inclusive and engaging way. Gabriel has lectured on sustainable cities on the Pembroke-King’s Programme (Cambridge) and conducted international research on social mobility as part of a Churchill Fellowship. At Uscreates he has worked with Tower Hamlets CCG on a new London-wide digital mental wellbeing service and The Health Foundation to develop a network of quality improvement professionals across the NHS.
Karen is our Junior Service Designer at Uscreates who is passionate about mental health, co-design and social innovation. Karen studied Applied Psychology in University College Cork followed by an MA in Interaction Design at Goldsmiths, University of London. She believes in enriching human experience through combining psychological insights with design thinking. At Uscreates she contributes to design research and co-design events across the public sector. She also assists with the day-to-day operations of the business. In past collaborations she has worked with architects, charities, vulnerable young people, psychotherapists and psychologists to develop understanding of the relationship between wellbeing and design.
As Project Manager at Uscreates, Bairbre’s role is to manage the delivery of high quality and impactful health and wellbeing projects. Bairbre is a PRINCE2 Certified project manager, with experience leading on sustainability and behavioural change projects across the public, private and third sector. Bairbre’s latest experience was at the SRA where she managed, from concept to delivery, high impact foodservice sustainability projects. These included a third sector project to improve food across UK hospitals and a public sector project to reduce food waste across large UK foodservice businesses. Bairbre’s background is in sustainability, with a MSc in Environmental Sustainability and environmental research experience in Bolivia and Scotland.
Thomas is a Consultant at Uscreates, with experience in applying creativity and a human-centred approach to policy research, campaigning, and stakeholder engagement in and for the public and private sectors, charities, Parliament, Central Government, universities and academia. He has led teams and projects working with and for the design and creative industries; on innovation, competitiveness and creativity in UK manufacturing; on the relationship between culture and community energy schemes; and most recently specialising in education and skills, with a focus on the tertiary education system, teaching quality, research, student finance, regulation, improvement and intervention, and pathways into work.
